I couldn't get a good shot of the mountains at the stop light. They were glowing and it was grey all around. Beautiful!
The kids and I took a hike with our Thursday group and had a blast. The boys ran wild with their friends for 2 full hours. It was a 2 mile hike and I had no tantrums at all.
It was a bit like Lord of the Flies with 6 young boys climbing mountains and jumping off the "cliffs". I loved that they would help each other up without being asked. So great.
The highlight was getting to pet a Chickadee. One of the kid's father was doing research on birds and we ran into him. He had some fabric bags in his coat and pulled one out. He pulled out a tiny bird and held it in his hand. The kids asked if they could pet it and he said "sure". The boys were over joyed. It did bite Duke, but he just sat there until the researcher pulled him off. He did say that it hurt a bit. It was amazing. You can understand this if you know how much the boys want to catch a bird and pet it on the head!

It sounds like a glorious hike with many highlights, but of course, petting the chickadee was the best!
Your mom
Jon says you need to getthe boys a parakeet, the only pet he had growing up in nyc.
