Happy Birthday To My Mother!

This one just snuck up on my with all the craziness around here lately! But, there is no way that I could forget the birthday of a woman that never forgot one of my birthday's, dance recitals or softball games. She and my father even went to my college graduation that was is the same week as her own, my little sister's high school and older sister;s grad school graduation! They logged some airline miles that week. She is wonderful and is a person that I look up to greatly. So, let's all say "Happy BDay" to my mom!!!

(Computer that likes my camera is still dead and I couldn't find the husband's camera, so pictures of the house will eventually appear... hang in there! --> if you know anything about computers that won't turn on, send me an email!)

To diagnose a non-booting computer is a very simple matter:

1) Open the case, disconnect all cables from the motherboard except power cables and the internal speaker (if so equipped).

2) Remove the RAM modules and set aside.

3) Turn on power. You should very soon hear a beep or two from the Power-On Self Test (POST). Various LEDs on the motherboard should light up.

a) If nothing happens (especially no LED lights), turn off the power. You have either a dead powersupply or dead motherboard --try swapping out the powersupply for a new one. If that doesn't fix it, swap out the motherboard.

b) Attach the video card and monitor. Repeat step 3. If you hear a beep but nothing at all shows up on the screen, your video card or monitor is likely dead.

c) If the motherboard lights up and you hear the beeps, power off, put the RAM back in and repeat step 3. If the system won't light up then your RAM is bad.

d) If the motherboard lights up with the RAM in it, then power off, reconnect the hard drives. Repeat step 3. If the system won't power on then your hard drives are bad.

Troubleshooting a dead PC can be fun, and it beats shovelling snow! Good luck!
