We got a wonderful shipment of wood this afternoon in preparation of a weekend filled with fence building. Isn't it pretty - I love the color and smell of wood. The husband and his family are here to make my fence and I couldn't be happier at the thought of my beasts running freely around the yard without the hindrances of ropes. I hope to have a good update on Monday about it! The dogs look excited about the prospect don't they? (I thought they looked like a yin - yang sign... tee hee).

I also would like any information on this tree. It has cherry looking fruits on the branches. Could it be a choke cherry tree? Can I eat them? I would love to know!

Lia,

Happy fencing! What a wonderful gift from the in-laws. It will make your life so much easier (with both dogs and children). The tree does look chokecherryish, but someone else will know for sure.

We're ending up accidently having a party here (for the start of our 45th reunion weekend). Wish you were here to help!

Hmmmmm . . . watch some birds for a few hours after eating them and see if they keel over. If not have John try them 1st (since he's not prego!)

It looks like a Queen Ann or Ranier Cherry - but take it to a nursery and have them tell you for sure - DO NOT test it yourself. The fence sounds wonderful - tga

It isn't chokecherry - they start dark purple and go to black and never yellowish - i go with cherries too. Wish I was there to help with the fence - that is a big job . . .. Dad

My bet is that the tree is indeed a mount ranier cherry or a type in that category. The leaves look like my red cherry tree. However, I agree w/ anonymous that you should take it to a nursery and NOT test it yourself. If it indeed a Mount Rainier cherry, you are SOOO lucky. They are expensive cherries to buy and a treat to eat! Preserve and freeze the bounty!
