I was looking at slings on the internet and they cost way too much for my liking. I have already purchased an ergo after tyring on one at a friend's house. That will be for toting babe around to climbing locations, on shopping trips and perhaps walking the beasts. You can have the babe in front, back or even the side. My friend carries her 1+ year old around without much ado. It really feels like you are wearing a backpack.
I wanted a sling for the early days, but didn't want to cough up the money. I found some tutorials on the net and set out to make one of my own. I think it took longer to purchase the fabric (linen) and swing by the hardware store for the metal rings than it did to actually sew the sucker. There is no cutting involved. The most difficult part was squishing 12 layers of fabric under the presser foot on my machine - I fixed that by just taking it off. I could pull the fabric in the necessary direction and it all fit underneath nicely. I don't know how it will work for the babe, but my watermelon seemed quite content in the sling.

Hee. Watermelon sling.
Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I no longer have my sling, but it would sure be handy to have one come December, when I have my new niece every day. Her mom says she doesn't think she would use a sling, but I sure would!
You are so amazing!
What a lovely, watermelon babe.
slide the fabric further out over your shoulder, away from your neck, and spread it out. it will be much more comfy that way.
