steeking

I cast on for another sweater with the Telemark Pullover pattern. This time, I added 10 stitches in stockinette when it told me to join to knit in the round. I also kept the 4 stitches on either side in garter stitch. I did these things so that I could make it into a cardigan!
I then made a line down the middle of the 10 stitches and used the sewing machine to sew down a stitch line on either side of that. I actually sewed the lines two times, just to be sure. This is so that when you cut down the middle of the sweater the stitches don't unravel the whole sweater!
You then carefully cut up the line. It seems strange and scary, but oddly fun.
I just tacked back the two sides! Voila! I now am knitting the sleeves. This is called "steeking"! And now you have the rest of the story (tm Paul Harvey).

Lia,

Okay, now you've found your calling--demo-ing knitting techniques via the web. You made the whole process seem easy (but I know it isn't).

Also, I had my first baby dream last night. In the dream I was getting ready to leave the house and Ron yelled, "Hey, don't forget there is a baby here." I went back into our room and to my surprise, Ron was trying to cram a little guy's legs into a sleeper. I just got a glimpse, but he (the baby) looked great!

Wow . . . it is like a miracle! Very cool and it sounds great, almost like your other favorite activity, streaking.
