I am planning a vegetable garden for this summer. My grandpa was a great gardener and I have fond memories of picking carrots, peas and then digging up potatoes in the fall. I bought some seeds to remind me that Spring will indeed arrive eventually. I found an interesting website about companion planting and intercropping. Some plants "like" other crops and some "dislike" others. Also, you can plant corn and then the beans grow up the corn and the basil can cover the ground to keep it moist. Interesting eh? So, I know that I will plant the seeds pictured, but what else would you suggest for my first garden. (Huck was also getting excited about seeds as you can tell from the picture)

Lia,

When we lived in MInnesota, I remember being astounded when I threw some plants in the ground and tomatoes actually grew. Tomatoes! It seemed like a miracle to grow such an exotic food. Sun and hot weather produce amazing things. You'll have a wonderful garden.

Everything is good about a garden except the weeding - they are a lot of work but the first bite of a tomato right off the vine is heavenly - juice running down your chin and all - maybe Huck will do the weeding tga

I'm planting my first garden this year, too! I'm clueless, and I don't even have a gardening grandpa to think of. I wonder if Lon's gardening grandpa would come over and give me advice. He has an astounding garden.

Anyway, I'm planting tomatoes so I can make sauces and can yummy tomato-based things. (My first canning, too.) I'm also planting pumpkins in a flower bed next to the street because I think it will be funny and look cool in the fall.

I second the sugar snap pea's, they are easy to grow and FUN to pick and eat. I'm adding herbs to my gardening this year, I'm excited to see how it goes!
